Entering {[]}| with German Keyboard Layouts in Houdini
Abstract
It looks like Houdini doesn't recognize the key codes for {[]}| send by German Keyboard Layouts. This technote describes a workaround alternative to just copy&paste these characters from a text editor.
Workaround
The idea is to install an English Keyboard Layout and set a hotkey to switch the keyboard layouts.
After opening the Systemsteuerung open the Details for "Textdienste und - eingabesprachen":
Add an additional Keyboard layout - I've chosen English(USA):
Now we have to set a hotkey for switching the layouts:
Select the entry "Eingabegabietsschema wechseln" and click "Tastenkombination ändern":
Now set the the hotkey for "Eingabegebietsschema wechseln" to one of the two choices:
Close all dialogs.
Before entering one of the missing characters, just need to change the keyboard layout. The characters are then assigned to the following German keys:
{ = SHIFT + Ü
[ = Ü
] = +
} = SHIFT + +
| = SHIFT + #
Conclusion
Maybe this issue is solved in the upcoming Houdini 9.
